Using the Forum in another Language I_icon_minitimeWed 11 Nov 2020 - 11:38 #1

I recently joined a forum that is in another language. I do no speak much of their language at all. I have set the forum to English and with the help of google translate have used it well. The members there have been very welcoming Very Happy

It nevertheless made me a bit nervous. So I would like to say to all of our members who English is not their first language. Please do not be nervous to post messages here. Everyone on the forum is very friendly and if there is confusion over anything written, it is not something to worry about! We will communicate just fine and the more you post the easier it gets sunny

To all of our guests who also do not speak English (a little or not at all) don't be nervous to join our community on the forum. Everyone is welcome. We will help you as much as we can. Do not let nerves hold you back Smile

@Downton Falls My native language is not English, but Spanish. And I agree with you ... although sometimes I have to write terribly badly (let me know, so I can improve my English), I know that you understand me, and I am delighted to spend my time in this forum with such wonderful people! Thank you! If you need a Spanish English translator, here I am.

I love you I love you Thank you Thank you

The first thing to do when you register is to change the forums main language to your own.

Using the Forum in another Language Editin10

Arrow 1. This shows where to click to access your profile. It will open a  drop down menu.

Arrow 2. This shows what to click to Edit your profile.

Using the Forum in another Language Edit_l10

Arrow 3. Click this button to open a menu.

Using the Forum in another Language Editin10

Arrow 4. Select your language from the options shown.

Arrow 5. Click Save to save the changes

Using the Forum in another Language Transl10

Arrow 6. This is the google translate button available on our forum. Click this to select what language you want to read the forum posts in.

Unfortunately the names of the post buttons such as reply and quote etc do not change with the language settings, but 90% plus will all convert to the language you pick. I will add pictures and written descriptions of each post button here as soon as possible. If you hover over the buttons the description is translated into the language you have selected to view the forum in Very Happy

I hope this helps Very Happy

Thanks @Chorilandia Very Happy You do an excellent job with translation. I on the other hand do not, lol lol!

But I have been managing on the other forum quite well. A friendly atmosphere is key I think. Something we definitely have on our forum here I love you

English is not my mother tongue. I am learning English by using this forum.
I usually read the post first in English and then in my mother tongue.
Now sometimes happens, that I read a post in English and I don't notice that it is English, lol.
Sometimes I don't understand some post. Then I translate it and I still don' get it.
Also translation sometimes is very funny. Google said RoC = Republic of China; or mic = microphone (sorry @Mic Miller)
Sometimes it is very troublefull.Smile

I learned English when I was a teenager, and the problem with having learned it when I was not so young is that I think in Spanish and in my head I try to translate it into English. My daughter studied English since she was 3 years old and the difference is that she thinks in English. Anyway, I have been lucky to travel a lot, and in the English speaking countries, it was not so bad for me. Where I suffered terribly was in Russia. Nobody or almost nobody there speaks English and they don't even try to understand you. It was a horrible experience! My dear @Kimber ... I admire you for trying to talk to Russians. affraidaffraid
Well, I don't talk anymore. @Medamana I don't know what language you speak, but I see that we are the only two who love google translate! lol!lol!

I speak Hillbilly English! Even though I was raised “up north”, I have the strongest “accent” in the family.
In the 4th grade, we learned some German. I can count to 19 and remember a few words. Took 2 years of Spanish in high school, remember some, and can sing a couple of Christmas songs. I admire those who are multilingual.😊

From my understanding it was started by Germans who like my grandpa family started it here in America.
Either way was always fun watching the little kids enjoy themselves!!!!

Not sure when the german immigrants started it I mean it could be for like very long time ago to on the 1900s I don't know
